Anthony Scaramucci, the White House’s new Communications Director, has landed himself front and center in the spotlight, but not exactly on his own terms. The outspoken Italian American New Yorker was just impersonated on Comedy Central’s “The President Show,” and the impression was met with rave reviews.
Scaramucci is played by Mario Cantone who, ironically, used to sell chocolate on the fifth floor of Trump Tower.
“This is all so crazy,” Cantone explains. “In 1983, when I first moved to New York, I sold chocolate truffles at the Trump Tower. I sold them on the fifth floor of Trump Tower and used to do impressions of people as I sold them. And then I worked there for a man named David Saity, who was a jeweler, and sold jewelry there, too. I did that for a year and then quit to do comedy full-time. So that was my one and only job in New York City, was working at the Trump Tower.”
Cantone was prodded into doing the impression when Twitter users started tweeting about his likeness to the new Communications Director. CNN’s Chris Cuomo and even Anthony Atamanuik, who plays Donald Trump on the show, reached out to the 57-year-old comedian. Cuomo, who has been friends with Cantone for years, gave him vital advice on how he could hone his performance.
