In an interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid, Sons of Anarchy actor Ron Perlman impersonated the President with stunning – and hilarious – accuracy.
Complete with run-on sentences, baseless claims (“Le Pen won” the French election), chauvinistic references (Macron has a “very hot wife”), and of course, complete non-sequiturs (from speaking about the French election to éclairs), Perlman nails Trump’s oratorical “skills” perfectly. His impersonation is also a testament to the fact that the President actually does seem better versed in desserts than foreign affairs.
The impersonation concludes with Perlman dropping the “bombshell” on Reid that éclairs were named after Napoleon. Given the fact that, in reality, Trump has spent more time voluntarily discussing “the most beautiful chocolate cake” at one of his properties than the fact that Russia, a hostile foreign adversary, launched an unprecedented attack on one of our cornerstone democratic institutions, perhaps this satirical impersonation is not all that inaccurate. That being said, it is a sad state of affairs when we can point to that fact that Trump said Emmanuel Macron’s name correctly as a win.
